Okay, really going to try to keep up on this thing...

I know I've been absent from the blogging world for say...about 2 months now :) but I really am going to try to stay updated more on this thing. Tonight I'm blogging simply as a way to avoid having to do work for my stupid master's class haha :) I really should work on it, but this seemed like a much more exciting thing to do.  So now I shall fill out the little survey thing...

How far along? 29 weeks tomorrow

Total weight loss/gain? 8 lbs. I feel like everything is stretching and growing a lot more now. I think from here on out I will see bigger gains every time I go to the doctors.

Maternity clothes? Pants yes, pretty much all the time. The only time I'm not wearing maternity pants is when I'm wearing like pj pants or sweat pants. Shirts-- for the most part I'm making due with regular shirts still. I have some maternity tops that I wear for work sometimes, but I also have several shirts that are non-maternity that I wear frequently as well. The biggest issue is just making sure they're long enough! hah

Sleep? Pretty good still. I've gotten used to sleeping on my side and it is more comfortable now. My allergies were terrible for about three weeks and of course I couldn't take my prescription medications so I was incredibly miserable and getting no sleep then. However, things have gotten much better! I usually only have to get up once to use the bathroom which is not too bad either.

Best moment this week? Some friends of ours called us up and offered us the opportunity to come take any of their baby things before they gave it to Goodwill. They have (almost) 3 year old twin boys. Jodi had sorted all the clothes into huge tubs all by age range and just told us to take it all-- and get rid of or give away what we don't want. So now we have 6 huge tubs-- 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months, 12-18 months, and 18-24months of clothes! It is insane! There are so many things in the tubs and they're ADORABLE. A lot of the clothes are from baby gap, old navy, or gymboree. Dave's favorite thing was the super cute pair of adidas basketball shorts I think :) They also gave us a boppy pillow, a bumbo, a little bouncy chair, tons of socks (my favorites of which were John Deere :)), a Columbia snowsuit, an LL Bean snowsuit, Keen sandals, 2 pairs of Merrel shoes, Nike sandals, Adidas tennis shoes, Teva loafers, snowboots... I could go on and on. Some of the stuff will be given to the grandparents to keep at their houses as well. :) This child is going to want for nothing (and we'll have to change his clothes all the time to go through all of them haha).

Movement? Yup! Pretty consistent. I feel him moving most often in the morning and in the evening (like right now as I'm typing this) but I will occassionally feel him when I'm at work-- usually when I sit down at my desk and am relaxed. Dave has only been able to feel it twice-- it seems like everytime I tell him he's moving, Dave puts his hand on my stomach and he stops!

Gender? A sweet little boy

Labor signs? no thank goodness.

Belly button - in or out? innie but definitely not as much as it used to be. I actually think my belly button will stay an innie, but we'll see!

What I miss? Being able to crouch down to work with my students or pick things up off the floor and not feel like it's hard to breath. I just have to pull up a chair or stand instead! Also I miss being able to really lift things... I hate having to ask people for help!

What I am looking forward to? We have started our two week appointments and start meeting the other doctors next week. This makes it feel more real and close! We also start our childbirth class this coming weekend. We were really up in the air about doing this-- having heard so many mixed reviews so we shall see how it goes. The thing that sort of swayed me in the direction of doing them is my friend who said that for her the biggest benefit was it was just some special bonding time with her husband.

Milestones? Into the third trimester and next week I'll be 30 weeks! Crazy!!!

Okay-- I guess I should get to work on some stuff for my class...ORRRRR I could go to bed and watch the Tigers instead... hahaha night night! xoxo

Old Wive's Tales

I saw this on another blog post and since we have our big gender ultrasound on Monday, I thought it'd be fun to do it too and see where we fell. There are about a million and one "gender prediction" Old Wive's Tales. I just did the same ones the other girl had done on her blog...fun to do and we'll see if a few days which ones were correct! :)
CHINESE GENDER CHARTS:
There are multiple versions of this online so I did several…
Chart #1 = BOY
Chart #2 = GIRL
Chart #3 = BOY
Chart #4 = BOY
Chart #5 =GIRL
Chart #6= BOY
There's a some of each here, but BOY won it out 4-2

OLD WIVES' TALES:
Mayans
The Mayans determined the sex of the baby by taking the mother’s age at conception, and the year of conception. If both are even or both are odd… it’s a girl. If one is even and one is odd… it’s a boy.
Both are odd for me.
=GIRL
Nausea
The old wives tale is that a girl will make you more nauseous.
No nausea or sickness AT ALL!
=BOY

Heart Rate
The old wives tales is if the heart rate is above 140, it’s a girl. If it’s below 140, it’s a boy.
Baby’s heart rate so far has been 145-148 which to me is low and makes me think boy, but based on this…
 =GIRL

Cravings
The old wives tale is that if you crave sweets, it’s a girl. If you crave sour, it’s a boy.
This is tricky because I haven’t craved sweets AT ALL—except the biggest thing I have craved is fruit—which I guess is a sweet? But I haven’t craved chocolate or ice cream or anything like that…I’m just going to go with sour because sweets to me is candy/sugar/desserts
=BOY

Hair on Your Legs
The old wives tale is that if the hair on your legs is growing faster than normal, it’s a boy. If it’s growing slower, it’s a girl
definitely have not had to shave my legs as often as I used to
= GIRL
Acne
The old wives tale is that a girl will cause acne because she is doubling your hormones.
Haven’t had any problems with this
=BOY

Clumsiness
The old wives tales is that if you are clumsier than before, it’s a boy. If you are as graceful as ever, it’s a girl.
hmmm…I wouldn’t say this has changed at all really…
=GIRL
Boobs
The old wives tale is that if your boobs grow a lot, it’s a girl.
Really not a huge change yet (thank goodness)—certainly not a lot like it says
=BOY
Sleep
The old wives tale is that if you prefer to sleep on your right side, it’s a boy. If you prefer to sleep on your left side, it’s a girl.
I'm a stomach sleeper (or was :)) so neither side is entirely comfortable because I'm not used to it. I spend a lot of time going back and forth to either side-- but I generally gravitate toward sleeping on my right side.

=BOY
Hands
The old wives tale is that if you have softer hands, it’s a girl. Rougher hands, it’s a boy.

 My hands feel pretty soft...
=GIRL

High or Low
The old wives tale is that if you feel heaviness down low, it’s a boy. If you feel pressure up higher, it’s a girl.
Well, I'm not really carrying anywhere right now! I guess if I were to say one or the other I feel it/ notice it more higher up…
=GIRL

= BOY
The verdict here?

GIRL = 8
BOY = 9
So, pretty much 50/50 ha! :) Of course we have the genetics element, which is why Dave and I are both pretty positive this little one is a boy. His dad is one of six boys and all of the six boys have children. There is one girl out of all of the nieces/nephews (Krista! :)). We just have the weekend before we find out Monday morning if our predictions are right!

Heartburn

If the Old Wive's Tale is true, this little one is going to born with a full head of hair...I've had heartburn pretty much since the start of my second trimester... Still -- so grateful that this is pretty much the only symptom I've had--no nausea or sickness at all!

How We Shared our news...

I thought I would share how we told our family (and my class :)) our news. So, without further ado, here are some pictures document these events...
Of course had to take the token test picture...

We told our dads the same way but at different times. We bought "Grandpa" onesies and wrapped them in Christmas wrapping paper.  We then told them they were early Christmas presents they needed to open now. They both of course were extremely excited!
The wrapped onesie for my dad...
and the onesie we gave hime (he's a big fisherman :))

The wrapped onesie for Dave's dad (sorry not very clear)...

and the onesie we gave him

I told my students the last week of school with a game of Hangman! Look how good they did guessing letters!

We told our moms and my two brothers at the same time. We had a bbq for Mother's Day at my brothers' house and so we had planned this as their Mother's Day present. We made little photo books from our spring break trip to Florida. I only took pictures of a couple of pages but you can get the idea...

Okay, that's it for now! I guess I better spend some time working on things for my class. Stay cool folks! (It's hot and humid here in Michigan :))

How far along? 18 weeks tomorrow

Total weight loss/gain? As of my last Dr. apt, I was down about 10 lbs. I feel as if I've gained but we don't have a scale, so we'll have to wait and see at our apt. Friday how much I've gained.

Maternity clothes? Nope. Everything still fits pretty well, which I'm thankful for -- not having to buy anything new yet! The one thing I have noticed is my camis (which I generally wear underneath everything) seem to have to be pulled down all the time.

Sleep? Pretty good. I'm a stomach sleeper 100% of the time. My Dr. told me as of now it was fine to sleep on my stomach until it becomes uncomfortable. It has started to be, so I'm trying to sleep on my side, but it's hard to get comfortable this way.

Best moment this week? This is not pregnancy related, but I would say the best moment this week was watching my older brother play starting quarterback for the TC Wolves (semi-pro team) on Saturday-- and kick butt! He played quarterback in HS and play football in college as well. He was playing DB for the Wolves but has stepped into the roll of quarterback as of last week. He completed every pass he threw and even set a record for the longest pass in Wolves history at 95 yards this past game (which they won). I was a proud little sister!

Movement? Not really. I THINK I have felt the so-called flutters a few times, but it's hard for me to be sure.

Gender? We find out a week from tomorrow!!! :) We're quite certain it's a boy...but we will see!

Labor signs? nope

Belly button - in or out? innie

What I miss? Eh, not really much as of now. I'm still feeling really good-- most of the time I don't even feel pregnant. I will say, that while I'm not a big drinker, I do miss the ability to have a drink on these hot summer nights with friends. Oh well! :)

What I am looking forward to? Regular dr. apt this Friday and then our big anatomy scan ultrasound a week from tomorrow!

Milestones? 4 1/2 months . . .

New to the Blogger World

I have decided to try out this blog thing. With the impending arrival of this little one, I thought it might be a fun place to share what's going on in our lives as we go through this journey. We have a lot of family spread out all over so this way they can stay updated on our lives as well! I'm not sure I'll be awesome at keeping this updated--but who knows. :) Okay for now, it's time to stop procrastinating and work on my Master's class paper!
